View Full Version : Zone Alarm
I installed Zone Alarm, a software firewall utilitiy this morning and just did a Shields Up security test. My computer turned out to be full stealth!!!
Zone Alarm is free to download at www.zonelabs.com (http://www.zonelabs.com)

I do not like Zone alarm for 3 reasons. Three of my friends on OOL had that and all Got hacked. I have BlackICE and the guy tried hacking me for 3 weeks, but had no success. The way to go is BlackICE if you need it icq me at 35694956

I think everyone has used Zone Alarm at least once since it came out earlier this year. It's a pretty cool and the best for keepin the intruders outta your PC.
I use Zone Alarm Pro

What is the difference between the pro and free version? I looked at them both and didn't notice much.

I think people say they get hacked or are getting hacked when all that is happening is a port scanner is scanning. It is happening all the time. When a newbie gets one of these programs and sees all the activity, they say "oh my gosh! I am being scanned! Red Alert! Battle Stations!" http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
ZA is fine. It is simple. You just don't have control over opening ports. It is just for people that want extra security while surfing the web. If you want to host a game, some will work fine if you lower the security setting. It is nice that ICQ works now on highest setting.

Um how bout not? We consider getting hacked when "questions" pop up and yer mouse and stuff is moven on its on. When your cd-rom opens and closes repeatedely and then your crap gets del. Thats being hacked, so stfu your the newb.

Whoa. Let's look at this rationally. Was Zone Alarm THE reason your friend got hacked? Was some 'back door' in the ZA software exploited? and if so, what technique was used?
Did your friend have file and print sharing enabled? Running a server? What, if any security risks were present?
The reason I am saying this is not to doubt that your friend was hacked but to determine if ZA was the reason as you claim, for being hacked.
No firewall is perfect. Yet, more often than not its the user that exposes the system to hackers.

What is "stfu"? Sorry but I got out of high school lingo some time ago...or is that an online thing I missed? As far as cd-rom opening, that can be caused by a virus. That has nothing to do with ZA. It would be that person's fault for downloading something from an unreliable source and for not using anti-viral/trojan software.

I don't have need of it either since I am behind NAT now. Since I noticed no logs for a while I took it off to save memory.
