View Full Version : RR Loses IP Address
Connected to RR via a cable modem, after exactly 1 hour of internet use or even with the computer powered up and sitting idle the IP address falls off. The only way to get it back is to re-boot. I have reinstalled WIN98 SE thinking it could be my local DHCP client but that hasn't changed a thing. I have installed a new network card, moved the computer to a different hub port and even put the cable modem directly to the computer to eliminate the network connections, still no help. The RR techs haven't encountered this problem before so obviously they're stumped. Anyone have an idea on my next move?

Funny that you should mention that, mine does the same, thing the IP just seems to disappear. mine works fine all night but when i wake up in the morning its gone, and i have to reboot my comp to get it back. any ideas anyone????????????
Here's my theory.
When you boot up you get an IP# thru DHCP server. Windows continues to load. Your firewall is loaded and running. Now that DHCP server can not talk to your computer so when your IP lease expires it can not be renewed. Next time you loose your IP try closing your firewall and use Winipcfg and see if you can renew the IP. If you can you need to add the IP# of the DHCP server that is trying to contact your comp to the trusted zone of your firewall so that it can get through it to renew your IP.
