Do any of the themes for Doom 2 that you can find on the web tone down the game at all? I'm hoping I can find something more exciting than stock car racing against the kids.

I sure can't think of any off the top of my head, except maybe a racing game, such as Monster Truck Madness or something like that, but that's about it.

check out Airfix Dogfighter ( http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10042-100-2489032.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.td_2489032 ). maybe something like Starcraft, or Command and Conquer. also, take a look at Insane ( http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10042-100-3168081.html?tag=st.dl.10001_103_1.lst.td_3168081 ) its an offroad racing game, but not the boring race-around-a-track-over-and-over type. the links i posted are for demos that can still be played online/over a lan without the full version. oh, and take a look at Treadmarks 1.5. i dont think you can lan play without the full version, but its still an allright multiplayer game.
anyways.... just a couple suggestions

I now have two PCs hooked up to a LinkSys router which is hooked up to the cable modem. I'm looking for ideas on how to fully enjoy these new connections. Is there anything that I should especially do or take advantage of with this new setup?
The two PC's I own are pentiums running at 166 and 133. (I'll slated to get a new "modern" one for Christmas.) Can you suggest any family friendly LAN games we could play on these machines?
Thanks

I'm sorry, I don't play family-friendly games, I can't help you on that one. Especially since your computers are not exactly the fastest around.
Maybe Rollercoaster Tycoon or The Sims allow network play, but I'm really not sure about that. Otherwise you might try some older racing/sports games.
Cheers,
Ronald

As a matter of fact, I have been lookin for Doom 2 everywhere. They don't even have it at stores anymore http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/frown.gif. I had Doom 2 on Floppies but they are no good, since I have had them since it came out.

You mean you ordered Doom II??? I mean, it's a good multiplayer game, but DEFINATELY NOT family friendly in the sense of violence-free. There are also a lot of satanic images in that game, so you might want to check it before you let your kids play it...

I was hoping that one of the theme patches would tone it down a bit. If not, I guess I'll have to play it with the adults after the kids are in bed.
Thanks for the words of warning.

All you do in that game is shoot and gut demons with chainsaws, pistol, shotguns, machine guns, rocket launchers, and BFG (big f***ing gun). Definately a game for later hours, when kids are in bed, but it can be lots of fun. I remember taking my comp over to friends to play that for 24h in a row without a break... aaah, memories, hehehe...
