Im fully prepared to accept your "nah nah" comments about me getting a linksys router again since I had shunned them so long ago, but ive had several routers now (wireless G) that simply do not work right. Ive purchased a Linksys WRT54G in hopes that it wont constantly kill wireless connections for NO reason like every other stupid router. Have you ever used this specific model? Thoughts? I didnt go with anything expensive due to lack of funds and I dont need anything above 54mbps (ok ok, 30mbps realistic). Your linksys boy so I thought id ask you first :D

I've done a ton of the Linky G router installs...they work pretty well for average stuff. They did have a glitch in the 3.x firmware where large file transfers over the LAN bombed out... but they fixed that in 4.x firmware.
However, if you're out purchasing wireless now...all I'm doing is Pre-N MIMO wireless APs/Routers. The increase in range, and reliability...REALLY IS incredible. I'm considering anything earlier to be extinct technology...about as useless as purchasing a hub instead of a switch.
The Linksys SRX or Belkin Pre-N units are great. And I used to hate Belkin routers..but they got a good thing going with their Pre-N unit. Any units based on the Airgo True MIMO chipset are good.
And you don't need a MIMO NIC to enjoy the increased range, you can use old B or G cards and experience fantastic range gain.

wee
just picked up WRT54G myself last week see this thread:

for the price I paid I am extremely happy, but with Cisco behind the company now I am not as suprised.
I was going to get one of the new technology that YOSC is referring to but for the extra $100-$150 for that device unless you really need the range I dont think it worth it.
For myself with the WRT54G and using a centrino laptop with a B card, I can go anywhere in my house inclduing my basement and bathrooms and never see the signal go below excellent. I did several tests and saw no performance drop. I also use 2.4 ghz cordless phones and was worried it would cause problems but I had the phone right next to the linksys while talking for over 30 minutes and able to surf wireless without any interruptions.
When it is nice out I will take my laptop outside and see how far I get outside but to be honest for myself I rather not have my signal go too far when I dont need it that far.
