Hi, I'm new here.

I have my internet connection through a wireless network with a linksys USB network adaptor. I don't know if that affects anything but yeah.

Now, whenever I download anything at all from anywhere, the download never exceeds 40kb or if it does than its only a few kb above it. I have SBC DSL and I have had it for a while. I started to notice this problem a few months ago. I didn't have this problem before even when I had the wireless connection. At least not that I can remember. I have no idea what is causing this. It's very annoying. It's like I'm not getting my money's worth.

When I play online games and browse the internet the speed is fine. My ping whne I play games like Battlefield 2 are low and stable. So this makes no sense to me at all. Please help me. I have always been faced with a problem with my internet I'm really wanting that to finally end.

Thanks

Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)
Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405ac01010402
MTU = 1492
MTU is optimized for PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1452
MSS is optimized for PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17424
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17424

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
511104 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
255552 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
127776 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63888 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 696.96 kbps (87.12 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 278.784 kbps (34.848 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 120 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

Try thease in the sg optmizer below me to download and install

check - custom settings
network adapter selection -
check modify all adapters
maxmtu 1492TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window 63888
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 windows scailing is checked

Other Settings tab:

Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need. For a stand alone pc all you need is Internet Protocol TCP/IP.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer and set your duplex mode to "auto". If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clean out your temporary internet files with CrapCleaner.

5. Power cycle your modem i.e. unplug it for at least 15 seconds.

6. Download, update and scan with SpyBot S&D 1.4 EXACTLY as I explain HERE & Ad-Aware SE 1.06 EXACTLY as I explain HERE to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster 3.4 to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES. If these 2 programs find a lot of things then please post a HijackThis 1.99.1 log for us to look at.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in our Help & Tips page.

8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it and search your pc for the left over files.

9. Install Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1.5, it's FREE and uses next to no resources.

10. Do a FREE online virus scan from Kaspersky Labs.

11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

I do virus checks regularly and spyware, so there is not any of that known to be on my PC. I have AVG Anti-Virus, Microsoft Beta Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, and have used Ad-Aware.

I don't have Zone Alarm Firewall. I use the WIndows XP Firewall. My Router also has a built in firewall.

Nothing checked under LAN settings, I know about that.

Temporary Internet Files is cleaned out regularly.

I have a linksys wireless connection with a linksys USB adaptor. Does that have anything to do with the problem?

I'll do the rest of the stuff you've told me about.

Thanks for the help so far.

40KB seems to be the problem for everything. Every program I have that lets me download never exceeds 40KB.

keep the dsl modem away from the montior halogen lights also make sure all the phones especilly cordelss are filtered if you are running xp sp2 make sure the firewall is allowing icmp traffic and also you might need unpnp traffic to get though to ur modem. Control panel firewall and advanced opiotons has those settings make sure they are checked.

Do I check everything in ICMP settings?

yep

Okay, after checking those ICMP settings, it appears that my download speed is even slower now. It peaks at 30kb now. Maybe its just a coincidence since it went back up to 40 again. And when I used the Optimizer it made browsing slow so I loaded up the back up. But even before all this I notice that when I start a download it would be up to 60kb and then drop to the limit of 40KB.

how far do you live from the central office??

Scorpion 01

from what I know it can't be more than 2 or 3 miles away, assuming I am thinking of the correct place. I could be wrong. But then this wasn't a problem before though. Before it could go up to the hundreds for KB. It just kind of suddenly happened. That's what doesnt make sense and ticks me off. It took me a while to notice it.

i would call them make sure they don't see any trouble on ur end and ask what speeds you are paying for that is odd

Could it be the router or some windows settings? Again, I have a linksys router on a USB wireless adaptor connection.

I can't find WAN ping or MTU settings for my router

your mtu is fine leave it alone if you can triy a network cable and card to rule out the wireless as a factor

i'm not sure if that will be possible since my PC is a bit far away from the router and through a hallway and a room.
