Hi, I posthed this over at the tweaks lforum but couldn't get an answer to my probs:
http://forums.speedguide.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=14&t=000878

Basically whenever I connect anywhere> Net, FTP, Mail, whatever it takes 3 or more seconds to resolve the host. Then the connection is fast and stable (256k ADSL). So for example I type the URL to this forum. It takes 3-5 seconds before the page opens, once I'm here I can browse the forums and clicks respond immediately. If I surf on to other pages and then again come back here it seems to rememeber the IP and the page opens immediately. Now I have 2 other systems on the same hub.connection and they work just fine so it has to be a setting on this particular system.

I have installed speedguide tweaks, I have tried cablenut, different configs. Nothing seems to change this. I have also tired a differen NIC card and it's the same. Some setting id funky and I don't know which. Any ideas?

You can see the blinking light on the router when I insert a URL. They'll send it off, then nothing for a few secs, then sending and receiving of info and the page opens. On my other systems there is immediated interaction. Here are my test results:

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 60648
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 60648
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2425.92 kbps (303.24 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 970.368 kbps (121.296 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 44 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00100000
Precedence (priority) = 001 (priority)
Delay = 0 (normal delay)
Throughput = 0 (normal throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

Here is my cablenut setting at the mo:

Control Panel --> Internet Options --> Connections Tab --> Lan settings... button. Remove the check mark from Auto-detect settings. Good Luck!

Thanks, lol, I already did that when I set it all up and it's still unchecked now.

Actually I've done some more testing. Installed the old ISDN modem again and haleluja, with IDSN it's as quick as before. So there's only one option left: Must be the NIC card then. But I also know that this worked perfectly in my previous PC...hmmm...I guess I'll remove it, maybe slip it into another slot and reinstall the drivers.

It's the only thing it can be tho really since the router works fine for my other two PCs and the ISDN works fine on this PC...only the NIC card left really...or am I overlooking sth?

Cheers :)

Check to see that Internet Exploader is not automatically looking for a proxy server.

Double check your DNS servers, make sure they are correct, try changing the order of the DNS servers.

Well I'll be damned!! Thank you very much...I spent all flippin' day configuring this baby and what do I find upon reading your post?: The DNS entries were actually gone...no DNS whatsoever. How the heck did that happen???

Ah well, all good now. Thank you very much for replying :)
