Sveasoft is a common one...they've released firmware for Linksys routers for a while, under several different names, Talisman, Alchemy, etc. I think they only keep firmware for current models, not sure if their firmware for older routers is still available.

Some of their firmware allows you to crank up the power of wireless units...more than triple the power. Sort of overclocking it..heh heh.

Sveasoft.com

They also do firmware for other popular brands, DLink, etc.

Linksys uses Linux based firmware also BTW.

Stonecat...

What's the truth about Sveasoft?

I've heard that it's great and provides lots more features...especially higher power...

...and I've heard it's Beta firmware that never fixes the bugs and keeps adding features no one wants to use.

Wouldn't running more power through the RF amp risk cutting down on the life of a router...and it seems Sveasoft has targetted the Linky 54G/GS series of routers.

Just curious BEFORE I pay $20 to answer the question myself!

Thanks!

I haven't dabbled in their firmware, only read about it...mostly over at the Linksys forums of DSLReports.com.

Cranking up the power on the routers shorten their life? Possibly, if you slide that bar all the way to the right...like overclocking your CPU, if you're going to do it, do it in moderation. Breaking FCC rules? heh...well...
