Sound balance prob...cause a virus?

Hi Guys,

i have a problem i think may be caused by a security breach...a virus!

i am using avast antivirus on a winXP sp1 pc... n after
updating patterns and scanning... still doesnt bring the culprit up...
which makes me doubt if its a virus or not...

im using soundblaster sound card and altec lansing speakers...

recently...actually been quite some time now...

that the sound balance left/right of the pc desktop speaker
automatically jumps to the LEFT! ARGHHHH.... i could be doing
anything!...listening to music..watching animes...or just nothing...
the pc will emit a beep and i know that the balance has automatically
adjusted to the left...so i tediously go to the sound controls and set it
back to the centre... how irritating...

anyone have an idea?

I'd not suspect a virus, rather first thing to try is getting the very latest drivers from Creatives website..and installing them.
