used to be with rogers. Now they switched over to shaw. They repalaced my old lancity modem with a terayon trapro modem, and switched me over to the shaw backbone servers.

Now my uploads wont go over 50KB no matter what server or time of day. Called their tech support, they say they dont know whats wrong. morons.

used to get at least 110KB upload on the old rogers@home setup.

I can almost guarantee something is very wrong cause all the Shaw users I know can upload at least at 70KB/s, most hitting at least 100KB/s. Myself I do 135KB/s and my node is very congested, purely amazing for the number of people on my segment. My friend who is on another node and only shares it iwth 1 other modem and he uploads at around 400KB/s ;), and yes he has called Shaw and they said that was awesome. Call Shaw and schedule a service call and get them to check your lines, if they come out clean but you still have problems than cal back and tell them to check all the lines that run from your modem to the CMTS. My problem was a real wierd one a few weeks ago, it involved bad amp tuning at the pedestal, dead amps, and even the CMTS was out of order..lol. Well that one I got a hold of a systems tech in Winnepeg and it was fixed very quickly after what I shared with him. And yes he said 50KB/s uploads was a very bad speed and that indeed there was a problem. Well here I am now all nice and fixed :D

i get a diff story every time i called them.

they have told me from:
it was normal, to stuff like its the way the terayon modem works, to stuff havent been upfraded in my neighbourhood to handle the new shaw servers.

i dunno what to beleive.

only conclusion ive have come up is that the shaw tech support is just as worst than the rogers.

50KBps up is far greater than the majority of @home subscribers.

most ppl in more congested area are uploading at 100-170KB/s and still on the rogers server, not the new shaw ones.

here is a test from my gf's house. she live in a more congested area. sge always had worst speed than me, except for her upload

BTW, Im on DOCSIS 1.1, and a 125 user node, and with no cap, Ill max at 145ish KB/second.
DSLr always gives low speeds for me, which is why I dont use it.

Shaw just switched me over about 30 minutes ago, and I must say, I barely remember the last time my connection was this fast.

I just did the bandwidth test at dslreports several times to make sure it's right and everytime I got about 1.5Mbps down and about 400kbps up. I thinks it's because they just switched me over so I'm basically all alone on this node.

I'll keep running tests to see how far the speeds drop.

ps. The results from about a week ago while I was still under Rogers@home are: 95kbps down and 40kbps up. Those were pretty consistent results on that day. A touch faster than my 56k ;)

That is still pretty decent upload speed considering Shaw has not finished off updating everyone in the area. 50KBytes during an upgrade is nothing to sneeze at, I would be mad if I got no service...

Once they have verified everyone in the neighboorhood loops and the cableheadend, most people should be getting some insane speeds up and down. It sounds like they have not completely switched over your area yet, so give em a few days to bring you back up to speed.

They cant MOVE your node. Its the wires in your backyard.

Can someone tell me how to find the test from dslreports that shows the graph that badboyben posted? I can find the one that gives the report like the one I have pasted below.
Uploaded 1bytes in 90ms
Upload got ok 50000 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 50000bytes in 230ms
Upload got ok 750000 bytes uploaded
Uploaded 750000bytes in 1332ms

** Speed 4516(down)/4834(up) kbps **
(At least 90 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Man, What I would do fir uplaods like that. In live in San Antonio, and I have Roadrunner. Although my download speeds aren't too bad, my uploads rarely go over about 15-20 KB/Sec.
