i got dsl and its obvious my comp isnt completely configured right. For example, a lot of times, when i click on a link in explorer, nothing happens for, maybe, 15-30 secs, and then it gives me the message saying i have no connection. my options are to work off line or try again. no matter which i click, it then works. (although, if i click work offline, then it gives me a message next time if i want to stay off line or go online.) to top it it off, while its going through these little phases, nothing else requiring a connection works either.
Yes, i have downloaded the patch from this site, and i have changed my explrorer settings. (there is no dial up connection created and, in lan settings, i have nothing checked. btw, i cant do the little setup feature. why's that?) i just wanna know what i can do!!! please help!!

Do not go to IE 5.5 to many bugs at least for me

ok, thanks. i kind of get what i did. but, what is a DHCP server and what role does it play in this situation???
DHCP Server. Is basically a server thats gonna deal you a new IP address everytime you loggin to the internet.. If you were on a static connect it would be a IP that you are assigned and you loggin in with that all the time....
Now I realize you don't have a dialup. Are you saying you have no PPPoE and that your on static then there could be more to do with this like finding out your DNS server IP address'ss that are asigned by the ISP

Hey...It used to happen to me .. the only difference is that it took atleast 10 sec before the modem even contacted the site...but it did load after that....I called @home tech support..NO USE....Nyway...I tried Unchecking the 2 proxy settings....from explorer options....It worked for me.
Just a note that this happen while I had cable modem.
Hope this helps....

yeah dannjr, i have a pppoe. the ip settings seem to be working great so far. i just wanted a little info on what i did exactly
All you did by putting in the IP address is to help keep the network card from trying to search for a new address when connected other than what it has.
Network cards can be a little funny in that respect as they always want to be busy.
If you were to find out the DNS address for the ISP which is advertised in Enternet 300 and 100. put them in the network settings for the network card this would make it even more stable.
heres an example:
pppoe gets 10.0.0.1 subnet mask 255.0.0.0 at the modem(router)
but there still is nothing to lock in the network card you walk away from the machine for 10 min and it goes dead it went dead because the network card tryed to connect to somthing else. Thats the short version
I'm glad its working good for you
Dan
