Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with this company's line? I have been a sonicwall guy for years - very satisfied with my SOHO3, but wanted to see what else is out there in that class.

Specifically, I was looking at the Firebox EdgeX15w ($500US) - http://www.watchguard.com/products/edgex15w.asp

Regardless of vendor, I want to get rid of my current wifi gateway (ironically, it is a multihomed Gateway PC box running oBSD :)) - too much noise and juice for a simple task. Looking to consolidate to remove the clutter in the home office.

Any other suggestions appreciated.

Have fun,

Skye

Never used a Watchguard, but.......I really like the SonicWall wireless units. I've installed at least 10 TZW's over the last year or so, and use them in my own 2 offices as well. I like the way they run wireless on its own seperate address space; the ability to force the use of WiFiSec via IpSec and VPN; and wireless guest services are way too cool! I use WGS at my summer office to let a couple others in the marina have access to my broadband connection. It redirects them to a url that asks for username/pw (which I assign), and then it gives them gateway access only. Really cool.

But- they just discontinued the TZW  . However, the new TZ170 Wireless is virtually identical in function, although a little more $$. I just bought a Used TZW on E-Bay 2 days ago, 25 user, for 200 bucks :D . So, you can still do it on the cheap.

Note- TZW's are 802.11B only. If you want G, you need to get a TZ170.

Thanks for that - I do need G, hence my exploration of alternatives.

I'd like to keep it under $600 if possible - I'll shop around for TZ170 and start from there. I am a SW fan, after all :)

Thanks again,

Skye

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm running two Watchguard fireboxes.. an X1000 & X2500.. They were fairly simple to setup and manage.. Im not sure if the management software is the same for the SOHO line, but it was pretty easy to configure the rules that I needed. I haven't tried the VPN yet though..
