Could someone tell me what the purpose of the 3db attenator is at the input of my modem? I know that a 3db cut is half power, but is this affecting my speed or preformance?
In case it matters, I'm with @Home and use a Toshiba PCX1100.
Thanks for any insight!!
Well first question .. what is your expected preformance, meaning what does you cable ISP give for speed's, all differ. What are you getting for speeds?. The "pad" on your modem is for on or two things, either your signal is/was to low and need a boost or the signal was to high and needed to be reduced. Having the pad there "shouldn't" affect any speed at all it's just used for signal usage.

I know that the "pad" as you call it is NOT to boost the signal. Attenuators are for reducing signals. After I posted the question, I thought about it a little more and figured out that it doesn't effect preformance at all. Since the signal is digital, taking the att off and "boosting" the signal back up wouldn't produce any more speed.
Thanks for the help anyway!!
