What happened to that thread that was going about the dispute that anyone gets over 1.2MB/sec?
I was hoping to see the proof of this finally http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif
Just curious why you felt this thread should be deleted.

Looks like they deleted it. I do not blame them. A recreational use product just does not sustain a speed that high. I recently tested a friends computer and it started off at 1.08 mega bytes per second. But, again, I did not believe that the OS was reporting the right speed because it swiftly went down to the 300k per second range. Also, I feel as some others, that the cache has not been cleared. Also, his processor is a 200 mhz Pentium and 32 mb of ram (I built the system for him about 3 years ago) and I wonder if a slower operating system starts the download and then does not start calculating the time elapsed for a second or 2. This would distort the calculated speed for a short period of time. Any number of things could account for a speed that displays that high. And, what benefit does it serve? It only shows a speed like that for 1/2 a second or so, maybe even shorter.
i don't understand why this created a flame anyway, cablenut simply stated that he has a spiked transfer rate of 1.2MB.
I myself worked with danjr and have started out at a transfer rate of 1.49MB, AND YES -the cache is cleared . i eventually fall to a speed of 600KB, but it seems people still have a hard time believing that .
while people are complaining that these speeds cannot actually take place ,we will enjoy them to the fullest!!
nobody claimed that this speed was a sustained transfer.

I don't know what thread you are refering to, and I haven't deleted anything recently.

Listen everyone, I'll say it one more time. I can't be more clear and everyone is totally ignoring what I said in the other thread. If you want to go on believing that this cablenut patch gives you these incredible spikes so speed, go on believing it.
Ok, here. When IE shows something like 1.49MB/sec at the beginning of a download it does NOT mean in any way, shape or form, that you EVER, even for a split second, hit 1.49MB/sec. It's simply a rounding anomoly caused by the fact that you are taking the reading so quickly after the d/l started. What it really is, is that you actually downloaded 1.49MB in something slightly less than 2 seconds, but since it's not 2 full seconds, IE still divides by 1 and comes out with the higher number. Once you get to 5 or 10 seconds into the d/l, the rounding effect has much less effect on the numbers.
We have yet to see anyone show "spikes" of 1.2MB or greater in the middle of the download using dumeter or netstat live or something like that.
Phillip there was a thread that had this stuff and there were over 50 responses, it must have been deleted.
I have a feeling that some other mod probably thought there was a little to much false advertising of another patch site and had enough of the thread. I tend to agree, if that's what happened.
