Hello Y'all
I currently have 2 computers on a peer to peer network. I am getting DSL, how would I go about adding DSl to this setup? also, would you recommend a USB modem or an ethernet based mode and why? Thanks for any help you can give me.

You just need to convert one of your PCs into a "server" PC. This PC will have proxy soft (or ICS - built-in to 98se, 2k, and ME) and 2 NICs, one for the DSL modem, one for the LAN. TCP/IP stack on the DSL modem NIC should be setup w/your ISP's settings. The TCP/IP stack for the LAN NIC should have an IP and subnet mask of 192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0, respectively. As for your client, it should be setup dynamically.

BTW, the 2nd NIC in the server may actually be the first if your ISP forces you to use a USB adapter or USB modem. Either way, it should work. Also, if you can't, for whatever reason, use one of your existing PCs as a server, you can use a router or buy multiple IPs (if available from ISP).
USB modems(routers) have had qoute a few problems dropping connections, freze ups, time outs on reconnect. Thats just mentioning the things that are in the threads here in this forum..
If you have the choice to go with a Network card and external modem thats the best by far.
As far as sharing you have ICS Proxy or a Hardware router that could be used I have one machine dedicated just for my connection setup on proxy I don't even surf on it unless I'm running tests thats the exspensive way to go because its just a internet server..
You can proxy the computers you have with a proxy program and use the proxy server as your main computer to surf on that is the cheaper way to go http://www.analogx.com has a very cheap program for that the price is FREE..
ICS (internet connection sharing) on win98/winME can also be used but there has been people that have had problems with that.
As far as a network program that can give you a better understanding about networking go here and get there networking .PDF file http://www.avirt.com its about 30 pages on networking there are lots of these types of files out there but this is a good quik ref...
You will need two network cards in one of the machines...
