I need my laptop and my desktop to be open to each other, so I can freely share files, and broadcast TV to my laptop.

Desktop specs:
Windows XP pro
Asus K7VMM+ mobo
AMD 2200+ xp processor
512MB DDR ram
160GB drive
ATI 9600XT all in wonder radeon 128MB

Laptop:
Windows XP home
mobo not sure
P4 3.4 GHZ 800MHZ FSB
1gig ram
100gb HD
ATI mobilty radeon 9800 256MB

I am using a Netgear wireless router WGR615. The Desktop is hardwired, and the laptop is either or depending on where in the house I am using it.

As it stands right now, I can access most all files on my laptop from my desktop. I cannot access my desktop from my laptop.

It has something to do with setting permissions on my desktop, I know, but I seem to be missing something, as to how to do that exactly.

Any help would be great.

Is your desktop visible under my "entire network" on either machine?

Have you shared your files on the desktop?

Check to see if windows firewall is on on the desktop, if so try turning the firewall off and see if that works.

My desktop was visible to my laptop under the 'view all workgroup computers' screen.

Actually, both computers were visible on both computers. So I can see it, but if I try and connect to it, it says I don't have permission.

Firewall on the desktop is off.

And I can send files to my laptop from my desktop AND I can browse and download files off of the laptop from the desktop.

Cannot do the same from the laptop side however, I am not able to get access period.

I got it fixed, I followed a guide on toms hardware or something. The only thing that eventually worked, was reinstalling XP pro on the desktop.

Works great now. Thanks for the insight.
