Using Win2000 pro, DSL w/Bellsouts as ISP, Efficient 4060 USB modem (I know, not the best... http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif)...modem sharing (Wingate), Win2000, ME and 98 clients...everything worked OK, only it seemed that sometimes after turning the monitor on after it was off (power saving feat.) modem tried to resync. Recently I got monitor switch (2 machines share the same monitor)and every time I turn the switch the modem gets off and resyncs (most of the times succesfully though, but sometimes it gets completely dumb...meaning restart the machine...sigh). I also use simple modem dial-up connection from "monitor sharing machine"...the company network does not support DSL and I need access to that...
Does anybody have any kind of suggestion how could I work around this (assuming that the problem IS in monitor switch)...would gratly appreciate any feedback
Thanks in advance

Are you using a 3rd party switch box of some sort or a monitor w/multiple outputs?

You must be getting noise from the video feeding back into the phone line. Try turning the monitor off, then throw the monitor switch a few times to see if the modem resyncs. You can also try disconnecting the power cord from the monitor. this should help you to pin down the source.

Are both computers ceertified under FCC subpart 15 level B? (I think Ive got a word wrong, it's not really level, it's something else).

If these are homebrews with no filters or toroids anywhere then you may have problems.

First of, thanks for reply...The switch box is some DataLink bought at a store...although looks like homebrew to me... http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif..as for the computers, one is Packard Bell, the other one older FYI...Anyway, if there is noise from video feeding to a phone line, what could I do about it.
Thanks a lot guys

Eureka,
Following your advice, I moved modem away from the monitor (was real close)so the prob was not a switch, but monitor itself...now, although I used to think I'm not a total dummy (he he), and knew about wireless phones etc issues, never in a thousand yrs would I think that monitor could interfere...guess we learn as long as we live...anyway, once again, you were extremely helpful, and I appreciate that a lot
