AVG is picking up a virus on the Battlefield 1942 install. I only noticed it after I installed both updates, so I am unsure where it came from but here is the info:

Filename: Battlefield 1942_EZ.exe

Virus: Win32/Mkrar.K

Location: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\eReg\

Is this a false positive? or is it real?

I couldn't find any info on google.

Thanks,

RicRogue

Maybe it was something I picked up outside Battlefield, and it just attached to that file. Is that file a needed file, or can I just delete it.

Try moving it out of your bf42 folder and launching the game. If it works I'd say delete it. It doesn't appear to be in my directory.

I found the same thing last night with AVG in my BFV/eReg folder. I put it in the vault and deleted its associate application found in the same folder.
Game still runs.

No information to be found on in, yet. Looks like got it on Feb. 13, 2005 if that helps or means anything.

Just checked my 1942 folder folder and I have the same as you but no virus was detected in that one. Date modified is July 17, 2002, two months before 1942 release, but created and accessed January 23, 2005.

Says its made by Easy MFC copywrite 2000.

But no virus detected in this one (BF1942), just in my BFV/eReg/battlefield vietnam TM_EZ

I have the same file Ric, no virus detected in it using AVG. It claims to be from Electronic Arts.

Hold on here....Crazycanuck's file was RENAMED to TM_EZED.EXE.....so I think EA has some explaining to do here.

You told me last night in TS that it was EZED.....3 times because I wanted to be sure it was different from the EZ.exe file.

So which is it?

I even wrote the **** down as you told me so I would be 100% on what to look up for you on SARC. you kept telling me ezed....ezed.exe, ezed.exe. That's why I asked you to repeat it over and over again.

No, three times I said "TM underscore EZ dot EXE"

Anyways now my Windows media player kept popping up and will not shut down. My start button keeping closing on itself making it really hard to access my programs and control panel. I installed Zone alarm and it stopped doing that. So I installed it on Max computer also but now his and my game just freezes after a minute of playing.

Still working on it.

Game is no longer freezing the computer up :)

Wow, I was actually ahead on this one. Right now I am leaving it quarrentined, until you pros figure out what is up. It doesn't seem to effect my game being gone.

Seems I did have it in my BFV folder, but AVG had already quarantined it.

OK, Charlie and I got it sorted out.

In canada the letter Z can be pronounced two ways

1- ZEE
or
2- ZED

When I said zed I meant the letter zed (zee), not the word zed.

i had it in both battlefoe;d vietnam folder and the medal of honor allied assault folder

i told avg to "repair" both and it did it successfully i still haven't launched my games yet though

on my comp it showed up the 1st reboot after an avg update so maybe it is a false positive.....????

My Microsoft windows media player keep coming on again all by itself, even with zone alarm running. :irate: I can't shut it off, and ever time it comes back i skuttles up my computer.

Somebody must know what is going on????

I've got AVG running, Zone alarm running and windows firewall turned on.

I'm kinda suspecting its coming from the second computer in the room, but no clue how or why. The player stopped popping up the last time after I shutdown and than restarted the second pc.

and oh yeah, why isn't my sig working?

If it repaired the file, then how could it be a false positive?

It doesn't make sense and is very confusing. I really don't know if you've been infected or not.

The ereg folder is also on your BF CD. Scan your CD with AVG, if it shows a virus, it is a false positive.

You need to be an sg folder or have a premium membership for sig image to work.

Good idea Sito. I have both discs mounted on virtual drives, nothing was found on the BF1942 CD, but the BFV CD came up with the above virus. Guess it's a false positive.
