I finaly got my cable modem working. I'm only getting around 400 Kbps. Not great in comparrison to some of you. But compared to dial up...woohoo. http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif Before I do any of the tweaks, I'm going to some of the speed test sites. So I can compare after the tweaks. I have two requests. First what are the mose acurate speed test sites?. And second. I've seen a program mentioned on this board before, that gives the current speed of your download, And keeps track of the amount of data you have downloaded. I can't find it now. So what is its name, and where is it located?

I find www.dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com) and www.2wire.com (http://www.2wire.com) to have the most accurate speed tests.

Here are some good apps for monitoring your connection:

DU Meter (http://www.hageltech.com/dumeter/)
NetStat Live (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/nsl.htm)
Net Medic (http://www.ins.com/software/medic/index.asp)

If you want to get a true reading of maximum download speed, its is best to test with actual file downloads (monitor with Netstat Live). When I combine about 6 or 7 fast downloads, i can reach sustained 800KB/sec, whereas most speedtests only clock me at 400KB/sec.

Downloading from fast sites, such as microsoft.com, 3dfx.com, download.com, etc., is a good way of testing your speed too.
