View Full Version : backup SG HL2dm server up and running (different location temporarily)
until the actual SG game server has the connection crossover and allocation worked out. i didn;t want to add any additional traffic to the line, so i got a server for 30 days. it;s in St. Louis, so everyone should be getting decent pings. i am still working on the map download redirect, which should speed up map downloads, but it shouldn;t take any more time that before to get them if you don;t have them anymore. as soon as we're all square on the actual SG game server, i will kill this (temp) one.
same hostname "Speedguide.net's low-grav playground"
ip = 66.165.126.80
i just transferred all the config files over to this server, so everything should be the same, aside from latency, which should be stable.
Looks to be full a lot. :thumb:

thanks, guys. it does get busy during peak hours.
yeah i have been hitting lately, some good players are on there.
i wonder if maybe the gravity could be set just abit lower, some maps it is just annoying trying to move around.
has anyone played that small map with the swimming pool in the middle of it, the one where there is only 1 spawn point and everyone gets stuck in it, much fun if you are on the outside of the spawn point LOL
btw do you need some $ to help pay for this ?

will ponder the grav thing. will see what i decide.
oh, and the small map you're taking about was dm_fool_day, and i removed it last night for the exact reason you mentioned. clearly not a good map with a populated server. still debating on whether to remove powersurge*, as its so big that it;s slow playing until everyone has finished downloading the map, which winds up being 5 or 8 minutes due to it;s size..
and i don;t want any $ for it. it;s actually quite inexpensive (the cost <$40/mo). keep in mind that i'm not actually renting a true dedicated server.... thats around $250/mo. it;s on a shared box, but it works :) .
i appreciate the input, too Mark. if there are any maps that are totally crappy, please lemme know. the map list isn;t perfect, and i will be weeding out the bad ones (and/or adding good ones) as time goes on.
Bet low gravity looks killer on a 6800 Ultra. You would not know tho woulda ya Faust?

BTW, which maps? there are a couple maps that i am on the fence about as far as keeping in rotation, so lemme know which ones are problematic if you could :) .

really? the server is in St. Louis, MO. i think you're closer to it than i am, and i typically get 70ms (non-peak hours, only a couple players) up to 105ms (peak hours). up to now i haven't been able to get the download redirect to work, but i think i fixed it, so the map downloads won;t be coming from the game server.... that may help a bit. give it another shot and see if its any better.
