Hope someone can help me with this. It's not a major problem, but it is annoying. I have a small peer to peer network with 8 PC's on it, all running Win2K but one (win98). All also use a D-Link 10/100 NIC ecxept for 1 (the win98 PC...it has just a 10 Mbps card). Here is the problem: If I try to push the network to 100Mbps, I get very spotty connectivity, even if I set the win98 PC to autodetect LAN speen or even take it out of the loop. In order to restore reliable (but slow) connectivity, I have to force all machines to 10 Mbps.
A little more background on the LAN.....6 of the 8 machines are realativel powerful new machines. All the D-Link NIC's are new. All machines conntect to each other and the Internet through a 1 yr oldD-link DI604 router/hub.
I really don't need the speed on the network, but it's a matter of principle damn it!!
:confused:
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Scott

if your router has a switch not hub, then you can set all NIC to use full duplex - this will speed things up.
Sometimes d-link nics do not like auto negiating full duplex so st it manually - note you can only do this if using a switch NOT a hub.

Something else you might try is making this into a .reg file and merging it into your registry on all of your pcs, it will increase your overall LAN throughput.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters]

"MaxCmds"=dword:00000064
"MaxThreads"=dword:00000064

Something is missing here.

A DI-604 has a four port switch built in. You have 8 PC's.

There's a basic math problem here and we need you to more fully explain your network setup and ANY other hubs/switches that are involved.
