In the past TCPOptimizer has worked for me on several PCs and OSs. However on one PC, no matter what I try it does NOT recognize the modem! The PC runs Win2K and is configured for ACPI. It has a NIC in a PCI slot and a 56K serial modem on COM2. However in the drop down box (see picture) it ONLY shows the one NIC and no other options for 'Network Adapter Selection'.

Note that in the Device Manager (see pic) there is no 'Dialup Network Adapter' listed. Only the specific modem is listed under the Modem heading.

Is there any workaround or trick to getting TCPOptimizer to recognize my modem as a device? If not, can anyone suggest a similar utility to TCPOptimizer that I could try instead?

you don't need the modem to show just keep it on network card all the values would change just the same.

Thanks. I understand most of the values are universal.

However my understanding is that some values including MaxMTU are specifically relative to each adapter?

Also why bother having an adapter drop down selection box if the adapter selected is irrelevant?

thanks again

That drop down comes in handy when you have two nics say if you got one nic just for a hub sorta speak with a crossover.

Well essentially that's what I'm trying to do except w/ a modem and NIC rather than two NICs. I've got the PC connected to the world with a modem and then connected to a hub where my other PCs also sit (and access the world via this PC's connection sharing).

Since I can't select the dial up modem everything I apply affects all devices(?). So if I'm applying optimal dial up modem settings to the modem it also affects the NIC/Hub/LAN...
