O.K.
I tried Bell Sympatico HSE having Cogeco @Home service already just to see the differences. Bell claims their ADSL willbe ballpark in par with Cogeco @Home.
I think Bell is on a different planet because on their own site http://fastweb.sympatico.ca/test I am getting ........
Bell HSE ADSL 959 kbits/sec % 8 = @120
Cogeco @Home 1700-1854 kbits/sec % 8 = 219-231
In conclusion How are those speeds ballpark to each other. Am I missing something ???

O.K. Now I am perplexed !?!
I uninstalled my Bell HSE software and the PPPoe protocol and rebooted...... now on the same site my Cable speeds are between 1060 and 1400 not the above posted results. Could it be the PPPoe protocol is enhancing my cable ???

i'm in NJ and on Comcast@home,i went to that test site and tested 1MB and 4MB and the first time it was 1754 kilobits/sec and the second time was 1628 kilobits/sec and i don't have any PPPoe protocol that i know of so i doubt it enhances your cable.

just did it again about 6 more times and the speed ranged from 770kb/s(only once) to 1700kb/s,so it all depends on the time and where you are i guess.
What Bell claims is, "constant" and "reliable" speeds (pardon my laughter), while cable bottlenecks at peak times.
As a somewhat recent Bell HSE subscriber I can tell you I'm not impressed, and if things don't change soon I'm off to Rogers@Home, regardless of the bottlenecks and even worse (I find it hard to believe) tech support.
I peak at the exact speeds you posted.

Just curious...was thinking bout getting Bell HSE here in Windsor, Ont. Really interested in the pings differences i can get
Play a lot of quake 3, and average around 150 with cogeco@home. Are pings any better with ADSL???

Kryspy why would you even bother with bell if you're already getting better speeds? The only thing you're missing is common sense.

he tried it out to check out the differences and he didn't know his @home got better speeds than the DSL.so he was curious,i would have done the same if i had the money to get both services at once just to compare the two.

Hey Kryspy[CAN], what is up with that sympatico speed test here is what I get...
Test starting...
Average throughput: 249 kilobits/sec
Total Time: 33620 milliseconds
Done.
and that is on my 56k, no joke. On all the other speed tests I get what is expected of a 56k.

There is always goota be one in the thread who is a jack ass isn't there ???
This reply goes the drew171 or whatever I tried Bell for a month because I work for a reseller and the kit cost me $10.00 which included my first months fee. So all that is missing is for you to pull your foot of your mouth and insert it in your ass!!!
Good day to you sir

BTW,
I think i just might keep the Bell ADSL because of its' consistant conection and speed. The only thing that makes cable so fast is the "burst speeds". On large downloads speeds will fluctuate dramatically in most areas which are not really detectable on a 1-8 Mb speed test.
