HELP! I have a new computer and I cannot connect to the internet. I have Windows Me and Roadrunner. I get a "cannot find server" message when I try to connect. I tried different ethernet cards, reinstalling cards and software, and loads of other stuff. All no help. Has anyone had this problem?? Any help would be great.

If you previously had Road Runner working properly on another computer the problem is most likely caused by the fact that you have not setup TCP/IP properly or your new network card has not been provisioned.

I will assume that you have duplicated the TCP/IP entries from your old computer into your new computer. If this has been done you should call Road Runner Tech support and advise them that you have a new computer and you need to get your NIC provisioned. They will ask you for the Adapter Address of the new NIC. To find the address select, START, RUN, type in WINIPCFG then click OK. Make sure that your adapter is displayed in the white window. The Adapter Address is displayed just below the name of your NIC.

Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

step number one is to make sure your network card is working properly. rightclick "mycomputer" click on properties, click device manager click on the + sign next to network adapters make sure your card is listed there and if it is make sure there is not exclamation mark next to it.
If the card is not there reistall it using the softwear that came with it if its there or if there is an exclamation mark next to it higlight it and choose remove.reboot your computer, win Me should recognize the card and automatically istall it,if it asks you to insert a disk try either with the winME disk or with the card softwear. It'll work.

GOOD NEWS!! Afriend from work stopped by and cleared up the problem in about 15 minutes. ( It just goes to show what can be done if you know a few things ) First he "pinged" my NIC card. Then he "pinged" the local ISP. Both times the results showed that everything was up and running as it should. He then went into the Internet Connection Wizard, changed a few settings that were specific to our area and, voila, instant connection! Thanks to all for your help. It was much appreciated.

Didn't I read that there is a bug between winme and Rr? I could be wrong. I thought there was another post about that and that RR was working with MS on it.

No?

Yes Lex Luther you did! They do not support Me in my area yet! But are suppose to be working on it. He might try haveing them reset his modem, And look for update drivers for his nic. This is why I put off upgradeing to Me .Till Iam sure it will be capatibal. Iam glad he got it to work. But Iam not going to try till Iam sure. Just call me chicken!
