Had an extra 200 mhz athlon system lying around and a couple extra NICS. downloaded this program from a recommendation of a friend.

http://www.ipcop.org/

Well, I've gotten everything installed on the ipcop pc and can log onto it from my 'green' interface pc. but i can not get my dsl modem to see the ipcop pc and therfore can't get onto the internet.

wall -> dsl modem with phone cable
modem -> ipcop pc with cat5 on the 'red' interface nic
ipcop pc -> main pc (green) with cat5

As im typing this im thinking i need to use a switch or crossover cable for 1 or both of these connections. i do have a 16 port rackmount switch on its way this week so i might just need to wait for it huh?

This program looks very nice though from what i've seen...been playing around in the GUI a bit and i like it so far....seems quite robust and a worthwhile project.

any input, opinions, fixes???

I have never messed with IPCOP, only smoothwall (http://www.smoothwall.org/) and m0n0wall (http://m0n0.ch/wall/) for friends looking to turn old boxes into firewalls quickly and affordably.

Have you checked to make sure the "red" interface is compatible? It may just be IPCOP didn't pick it up and install the proper module for the device. What is the make of the card on the red interface? Check the HCL (http://www.ipcop.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=IPCopHCLv01) on the site to be sure its listed. If it is then it may just be a MAC issue or a problem pulling an address via DHCP.
