I'm experiencing a similar problem as the cabel modem issue posted elsewhere, but with a Westell WireSpeed DSL modem. Randomly my broswer (and email) will hang for 30secs to 2mins, and then work normally again.
My provider is PacBell. I've reinstalled the software a number of times - EnterNet 300. I've had the line tested remotely and from my connection. My throughput tests at 1.2mbps. With the tech's notebook, there are no similar hangups. His thought was that my system resources are too low - however it will hang after a fresh reboot with 70%+ resources.
I've tried all of the patches - which have helped my overall speed, but have not fixed the hanging.
Any ideas?
For Win98SE http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q243/1/99.ASP
Also assign a IP address to the network card not the PPPoE adapter
10.0.0.3 subnet mask 255.0.0.0
Works everytime with PPPoE if its still hanging after this you may have to run the IE repair tool in system information.
Hoped this helped

Does it need to be this IP address? Or can I use another one? Also, I believe that PacBell assigns a dynamic one that is forced every 24hrs if I don't disconnect.

Also, I believe that PacBell assigns a dynamic one that is forced every 24hrs if I don't disconnect. It's not being assigned to the TCP/IP stack that is associated w/the PPPoE adapter, but rather the stack that is associated to the NIC in your system. Therefore, you will still receive a routable IP address from Pac Bell's DHCP server.

I thought this was working - but I've just started using a Terminal Services Web Connection and I'm losing the connection every 5 minutes or so.
What should I do next - this sucks ass!
