Hi, folks! Here's my tweak result.

TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 513920
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 20556.8 kbps (2569.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 8222.72 kbps (1027.84 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 56 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
---------------------------------
Ok, when I download on fast servers such as AOL, happypuppy.com, etc. At first, it went up to 1.2x MB/s then drops to around 6xx KB/s. My question is that is there any factor that would keep my down speed constant around 1.XX MB/s or is it impossible due to the cap factor??

Thanks

When you do a Long download, after short period of time the number get stable, that is your current Download Speed.

The seemingly faster download at the beginning is a “mirage”, it has to do mainly with the initial starting of the file Cache, and the first few reading that are done by I.E. When the cache is still empty.

and make sure you get like netstatlive that is a good speed reader and r you talking about like 1.2 mega/bits or 1.2 mega/bytes there is a big difference there if you down load at 1.2 mega/bytes dont complain and even at 1.2 mega/bits is still so much faster then 56k

heheh...First of I wanna say that I'm not complaining about my speed at 1.2 M/bytes NOT M/bits. But what I wanna do if possible is to keep that peak download stable instead of letting it drops back to 600 K/bytes per second.

Thanks for the replies!

600+ KB a sec? Wow!! I imagine that 99.9% of the members here would love to have anything over 300 KB/sec. Just to have 600 KB/sec would make my toes tingle :p

yea your very lucky and i don think there is any thing you can do to keep it stable but my highest was around 900KBps and really there is no way you can tell if you have been caped unless you down load multiple files and your using like net state live and it wont go over a sertain amount .... but speeds really rely on the server your dling from and how many hops and how good your stuff is

You don't get it guys.

The non-stable High reading is a calculation fluke of the browser, when the cache starts new file. It is not real.

I have a backup system with 56K regular modem that is stable on 6.5MB/sec.

It start 23MB/sec. do you think that Tel. line is capable to download at 23MB/sec.
That is 184Mb/sec.
