Sup folks...my brother is getting cable in his apartment. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with this. Is the connection slower than a line to a house? Can he ask the cable guy to do anything special to give him a good connection?
Just wondering what can be done to maximize speed in a big apartment complex...?

The line in your brother's apartment should run to what is referred to as a "tap".This is the same as if he were in a house. There should be no bandwidth or signal quality issues related to it being an apartment.
The best thing he can do is go to http://192.168.100.1 in his browser after the installation is complete. This internal diagnostic page for the modem will allow him to check signal levels.
Acceptable Signal Levels
Foward Path Received Signal Strength: -15dbmV to +15dbmV
Foward Path: SNR: 30dB or Greater
Return Path Power level: 45dbmV to 52dbmV

Well it really shouldn't make any difference... only major thing I can think of is if there are many others in that area and/or apartment building that have it as well which can effect it somewhat. I dont' think he can get the cable guy to do anything different either Lol... just basic tweeks you find here will help some along with a good line run and signal noise ratio.
