Welcome to Speed Guide dogfish130...

What do you mean by disconnected? Are you losing block sync?

Never heard of someone getting disconnected so often... So I can't really pinpoint why this is happening.

Try switching network card to a different slot and see if this helps. You may have a irq conflict or a bad nic. If this does not work try powering down your modem and wait 5 mins. Then start it back up. If this doesn't work. Call tec support and tell them of your proublem. It could be bad lines or a bad modem or just about anything. But they should check into it for you.

so is there really any thing else i can do besides call tech and switch slots with the network card and the rr medic says the network card is working fine its just saying that the default gateway and the news server is unavialable and other things.

dogfish130, you need to contact thier tech support and let them know about the gateway and news server.

Rebuild your tcp/ip stack, if that dosn't work reinstall your nic divers. You can't ping you default gateway or news servers because you have no connection, nothing is wrong with those servers. your OS is the issue here .. it's losing the connection.

After you rebuild you tcp/ip stak or reinstll your nic drivers or both, grab a spped path off here.

does any one know if it could be the modem thats getting disconnected

It could be but only you would be able to tell that. But you have said that when relase and renew it works so it dosn't sound like the modem is losing it's connection, other wise you couldn't renew.

WELCOME TO THE LIFE AND TIME OF A RR USER. i have that same problem it used to happen alot and it doesnt happen much yesterday it started up again but today it is steady so far. I had to release and renew to get it working again. I called the techs and the put me to a level 2 tech and he said since i didnt have any service packs for win2k that he couldnt work on it.

Yeah, doesn't it suck? I have RR here with RR Medic and all, always trying to diagnose my connection (cuzz, well, they suck). I find my connetion constantly just going On/Off for no reason at all. It's really a bad deal, i'll be running an fserve, dl'ing of ftp, etc, have AIM on (dont make fun of me) and everything will be fine, then status light starts blinking, all connetions drop, and it can't connect till i restart modem/computer/or release renew my ip. RR said no big deal, it happens, just keep doing what i'm doing to get it back, though they couldn't diagnose "why" it was doing that, they seemed to not really care. What else is new. Goodluck,
SpiXe

dogfish130, SpiXe & Merc .. if you have to release and renew it's not a RoadRunner problem, it's a OS problem. I suggeested to dogfish to reinstall his tcp/ip stack and if that didn't work reinstall his nic card drivers. Who knows .. maybe it's a bad nic, do you use a USB nic? if so rip it out cuz they are lousy, get a PCI nic. Also goto microsoft and grabb all the recent updates it will help.

So dogfish have you tried what I suggested yet? and you havent said yet if your modem is dropping out at all, if thats the case then it is a RR problem. There should be a LED light called status not PC status, maybe modem status but the symptoms your discribing don't lead me to believe it's a modem issue.

so i have a linksys nic and in devise manager it says that it is funtioning properly and how would i reinstall my tcp/ip stack and if that doesnt work should i just put the disk that came with my nic and install the software back onto my computer

Go into network properties under control panal on your menu. Once your in network properties . Choose to remove TCP/Ip Protocol. Then reboot your computer. Have your windows cd ready. Then go back into network properties and add the TCP/Ip protocol. The reboot again. If this is the problem . You should be fine. Now if you don't want to do it this way .Just uninstall the nic and reboot. The computer should pick it back up and ask you for its software ,plus your windows cd. One thing to remember windows may say it is operating fine. But I have found out in the past this does not always hold true. GoodLuck! Hope this works for you.
