View Full Version : NEWBIE, My speed is nuts but it drops alot?

Im pretty new to this i did the msn speed test an got Your line speed:

6800 Kbps


833.3 K bytes/sec
But sometimes when i download from different sites it starts from 600kb an drops down to 120kb on many sites i also had a cable technician come to my house an almost fell off the chair when he seen my speed an said this had to be the fastest he ever seen.I have the terajet,I told the tech. that it never did this before an most of my friends are going threw the same problem why does the download speed drop so much constantly just started happening a week ago.He said i dont know what the problem why it drops.Im going to have to call the place where i bought my computer, some technician,Any one can help i appreciate it thank you.

hey lexus, first off don't go by what that test tells you cuz it ain't right. if you are going to do those test try the one at www.dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com) speeds vary for a number of reasons, server load etc..have you tried the tweaks on this site if not try the one for your OS.

I have already tried the the tweaks,but the one for my os you forgot i was a newbie what do you mean by os an where an how can i tweak it. thank you i appreciate your help.

The OS is the "Oprating system"

At Dslreports they even tell you that the tests are not as accurate as they should be

Since your still real new to this you might spend some time on the speedguide main site reading through the hole site to get a good feel for it and read through more of the threads(posts) to see if there ws someone with a similar problem

You said you ran one of the patch's(speed tweaks) but did you run the Vtcp.386 fix too.
that will be important in using the patch's
