The cable guy is gonna be here tomorrow (wheee) to do his little installation thing.

I live in a duplex, my landlady lives downstairs, and I live upstairs, she's got cable (TV, but no internet service) And I'm going to have internet service, but no TV (when I watch it, I can almost feel my mind rotting)

What are the chances they're going to bring a new line in from the poll directly to my apartment instead of taking the easy way out and splicing the existing line somewhere along the way?

Oh, and one other question while I'm at it.. do they HAVE to install any software? I don't need a new version of IE on here with an animated roadrunner bobbing along at the top right of my screen. Any specific information I should get from the cable guy, since as soon as he leaves, I'm going to re-image my hard drive with norton ghost?

As to whether or not they'll run a seperate line, who knows. You could ask them to!
You don't really need any of their software as long as your running I.E. 5x. I don't think they have any mandatory thing for you to use their software, at least not to my knowledge. ;)
I'm running the assumption that your getting Road Runner!

yep, using RR. (hence the bobbing animated roadrunner at the top right) ;)
