AVG is not discontinuing support for AVG FREE, they are updating it from AVG 6.0 FREE to AVG 7.0 FREE. The reason for this is because 6.0 cannot be revamped to protect against the latest types of viruses threats so they are releasing a whole new improved FREE version. It is supposed to be released sometime in November, more than enough time before support for 6.0 ends on Dec 31.

I've been using Avast for a while now, I like it. IMHO it's better than AVG. :)

I found Avast to be clunky and slow.

Strange. I found AVG to be the same that you did Avast.

Oh there's much MUCH worse ones out there. Trust me. True of their newest home market retail products.

Now for their Corporate Edition/Small Business Edition of antivirus, I beg to differ, they are much different than their home market products, and FAR superior, one of my top 3 favorite AV products.

I went ahead and dropped NAV for the moment and download Avast! onto my system. It definitely isn't a system resource hogger.

Not as bad as norton, avast isnt the best at it wither tho, but I do like it. Have to wait and see how AVG 7 comes out, other than that I see no competition under 250 bucks lol

I realize not everyone has run into this issue, but I've never been able to get the updates to work on AVG, even after trying again recently.. I would manually click update and it would say something about "connection not available, please manually connect and try again".. This also happened to 2 of my friends whom I recommended AVG for. wtf? I tried a few things such as re-installing and adding other update servers to the list, etc etc.. but in the end I decided "why?".. Why should I have to go through all this trouble? I just want something that I can install and have it work on first go around.. AVG has struck out 3 times in my book..

I tried out AVAST and it never gave me the slightest issue.. Not like I've ever been infected with a virus anyways. :::shrugs::: As for resources, it doesn't appear to make my laptop flench in anyway so I'm good there. :)
