View Full Version : Sience Project: Megapixels
Im gonna do a science fair project on whether Megapixels matter. Im gonna need cameras to test this on. Im gonna print pictures out on each camera. Which cameras do u suggest? I need some examples of cameras that have megapixels and quality and some cameras with megapixels and bad quality and some middle ones. This project will cost alot but i will figure a way out

Just out of curiosity, why not get people here to take pictures for you with their different cameras? The pictures could be posted here, along with the specs for the camera. You could then save the pics to a disc and print them out yourself or have them printed somewhere else. Just an idea, don't know what you already have planned.
sure good idea. THe thing i need though, is a standard picture that everyone here would be willing to take pictures of. or at least a similar picture, something not complicated. For example, I would probably want 1 macro, and one other picture. Suggestions?
for the Macro..
a quarter or something?
maybe a dollar bill?
something everybody has access to...
Id be willing to help 2MP here
how bout a picture with a quarter , penny, and dollar bill in it, macro.
Someone post one pic, and if i like it we can make that the standard photo for others to take there pictures off of. I want all megapixel ranges. from .5 to 8 or more.
can people start posting pictures? thx alot!
if not posting pics, could people suggest cameras to use in this project? so far, ive got an olympus stylus 300, an hp 945, a canon sd110, a canon sd20, a canon EOS 20d and a kodak 3 MP camera. I want many different cameras of the same megapixels, but some that produce good quality pictures and some that produce poor quality pictures. For example, a good suggestion of a poor 6-8 MPer would be nice, or a good quality 2 MPer. Keep in mind, all these pictures will be printed on 8.5x11 Photo Paper.
It has already been proven that Megapixels really don't have much to do at all with image quality. Other things matter more. Such has natural lighting. The quality of the lens on the camera. Things like that. Not just how many megapixels a camera has.
It would be best though to test the different cameras under the same lighting situations. And taking a picture of the same thing. Obviously.
thats exactly wut im gonna do, i no that megapixels dont matter that much, but im doing a sience project... its a question with a hypothesis and answer.... thats all i care. Im also gonna test a canon 20d. THese pictures are all gonnab e of the exact same thing. taken at the same exact time. I need help with one more camera. i need a higher megapixle camera that really sucks, as in alot of noise.
A dSLR that really sucks would be anything made by Sigma. They're using the Foveon chip. Interesting technology, but they don't seem to know what to do with it.
Also, you might pop by the English department.
Science is spelled S-C-I-E-N-C-E, not S-I-E-N-C-E. ;)
I have the Canon 10D, 1D MKII and 20D cameras.
i no im just typing fast its S C I E N C E.... stop correcting typos, its stupid, people can spell... haha... JK. well i want like a high megapixel camera that sucks that isnt dSLR, for an idea, these prints will be 8x10 and i want a big difference between the pictures.
