ok so here's the deal, im stuck in the dorms and i can't download music, movies or even get a decent connection for playing games.
we've got this t1 but noone to make good use of it :D
soo...i was wondering if anyone knew how to get around a network firewall created by ResNet (our provider).
I'm not too willing to do anything illegal (such as to say, attain their servers' ip address, hack into it, reset security options, etc.) altho that would be nice :thumb: i'd probably get tossed out of school on my ass :(
well, any ideas or suggestions are extremely appreciated.

We're not going to help bypass any security in place on a network, it's been put there by a reason by the IT guys to help control the abuse of bandwidth, and reserve it for the needs of the college. They usually implement packet shaping, QoS, proxy, and/or other means to keep the type of traffic they don't want from eating up the bandwidth needed for general use.

Esp if you are really only fed by a T-1, which is quite small for a "college", must be a small college.

Add to that, if it's a college with poor security implemented by the IT guys, the network can get completely out of control, bringing the network to its knees. Students with computers without windows updates, antivirus, or firewalls....put a few on a college network, and pretty soon it will be a big traffic jam. Doesn't matter if the college is fed by an fat OC-48, if things remain unchecked, it will bog down to a crawl.

I know it's not the answer you want to hear, but that's the scoop.

I tried replying to this same user's question yesterday but the thread disappeared quicker than I could post exactly what YOSC just said.. :p

Consider this your motivation to do well in school so you can move off campus and pay for your own internet service and be as secure or unsecure as you wish. :thumb:

 waaaa!!!
so sad, cat you've made me so very very sad.
thank you for taking the time to respond though, as well as everyone else :thumb: each dorm has its own T1 though for the record, which is supporting roughly 150 students so it's not that bad IMHO. i am however paying a small fortune to go to this private college so i was expecting to atleast play a decent game of quake in my free time
well thanks again every1, take care.
