Hi. I am new here. I must say this is a really informed group. I have a question, I use BlackIce defender Firewall program. I also am a subscriber to the @Home network. The service is ok, 4 cable outages in the last 4 months. Not too bad. Anyway, when I use Blackice Defender it detects the @Home network doing an authorized security scan. Has anyone else encountered this? And is there a reason why the @home network is scanning their users?
Thanks.

They may be checking to see if your running a server.

They also do port scans for any virus and trojans basically keeping the network semi clean

That would explain the subseven trojan hits on my Norton firewall. Thanks, been wondering about those http://www.speedguide.net/ubb/smile.gif

I always wondered about those Subseven Trojan hits that my Norton Internet Security kept reporting to me too.
Never got them again after installing the BEFSR41 Router from Linksys. The built in firewall must be blocking them from ever coming into my PC.

Actually whats happening is the security scan is mainly for nntp servers. Which are news servers. The reason behind these scans is because @home had a major problem with its users spamming newsgroups, and they were almost black listed off all news groups about a year ago. That means no news access for @home users. So now they scan all their customers. Thats all.

Yup scorpius is correct^
I get @ a minimum of 6 or 7 hits 4 the nntp thing. But about the sub7 thing...if u have blackice or zonealarm it will tell u the ip address and dns(blackice). If the ip starts w/ 24 then it is from @home. But be careful as it could be @home doing that..or it may be someone on the @home network probing u or lots of ppl 4 a sub7
