Aright here is the whole situation

Me and 4 friends live together and we have 1 bell DSL ultra line which connects to my wireless router and then to all computers, 1 wire, other 3 wireless.

From here we usually just connect to network, and then create an internet connection to bell, which everyone much dial to separately.

Now there has been no problem up to the fourth friend. He connects wirelessly, and the problem is when he connects to the network he gets an "Automatic Private IP" which of course is a problem. He can't connect to network, or open a bell connection. Now if I assign him his network information, such as DNS/IP etc, he connects fine to the network. If he connects to bell, bell connects fine and says it’s connected, but no internet connects appears to be visible.

I haven't no idea what’s going on, I think it may be something to do with the initial Automatic private ip error; he no one else is the house gets that message. Also would there be a way for one of us other 3 to send him the connection through the network. I try selecting share this connection, in my bell connections option, but didn't seem to work... thanks anyone who can be of help... btw were all running sp2, xp pro(i think)

That's where I'm losing ya....why do they dial up separately? Everyone, if indeed behind a router, should equally connect using only their local area connection....they should all have a private IP address, such as 192.168.1.XXX.

ya i know, i agree it is werid. We all do have our private ips, but for some reason, the internet dsl won't share with with the network, we have to dail in

Then the router must not be setup correctly...such as, it's not set to PPPoE or something.

If you have PPPoE DSL, and a router, the router does the PPPoE authentication, setup per the instructions that came with it. The workstations behind the router do not do the PPPoE authentication, they should just be using their LAN connection.

alrite, i enable PPPoE DSL on the router, and now i can connect to the dsl without having to dail, but my friend still can't connect to it though. And if it isn't maunaly set he get connect via APIP..... its werid,, i think it may have somthing to do with his computer, since when i try my usb nic on his computer i get the same thing... anyway to wipe out all network settings, without reinstalling xp.. or do you think it could be somthing else?

Just remove all network connections (unless needed elsewhere), so it's down to a single "LAN" connection.

Set that LAN connection to "Obtain IP automatically"...which it should from the router if you have the wireless part setup correctly. It should be treated just like the other computers.
