With WinXP Home I am trying (for the first time) to set up the first of two AMD2500 PC's onto a Sitecom Broadband Router DC-202. The first time I enterred <http://192.168.0.1> it said "This page is not available, work offline"!!!!! Although "Obtain IP address automatically" and Auto detect settings are specified, and the @Home Motorola modem was reset, and the Router was reset, and the Install Wizard eventually (after two nights trying 8 hours each, many, many settings changed and rechanged, trying to establish a new network connection, changing: DNS, Gateway, domain name, MAC, LM Hosts, ICMP, firewall, security; ran WinsockFix, ipconfig release, renew, flushdns , registerdns, etc, even running SpyBot looking for Trojans, and many more) . . . . . . . the Wizard "Run Test" stopped saying "Failed", and said (!) I now had Internet Access.

The very next thing I did was run the Network Diagnostics Connectivity Test. The first few panes sprang open green, but Proxy Server, etc - RED.

"GATEWAY NOT FOUND" (and No access with Internet Explorer)

If the IP is set automatically (ie no static IP enterred/prescribed anywhere)
PLEASE could some one guide me, because I am just changing all the settings under LAN, and Connectivity at educated random, and there are just too many permutations and combinations to try before I go completely round the bend.

I removed the connection cable from the router WAN, and plugged it back directly into PC#2 where everything was hunky-dorey as before -- NoProbs!

(As usual the Help seems to refer to something else not here and now, and nothing does what it is supposed to do, and there is no Help when it doesn't happen the way it should. That's why I like this forum - somebody is always prepared to go into comprehensive detail for a Newbie)

Dear MadDoctor:
The router is not "broken", you just can't tell me the correct procedure for setting this thing called a "Gateway"

If you try to manually assign one workstation a static IP address, just to test, can you ping the router?

Meaning, assuming your routers LAN IP is 192.168.0.1, give yourself a static IP address of 192.168.0.10, with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

You don't need a gateway or WINS or DNS for now...we're just testing the connection.

So once you have a fixed LAN IP on one workstation, can you go to a command prompt, type in "ping 192.168.0.1" without the quotes, and get 4x replies?

Dear MadDoctor:
The router is not "broken", you just can't tell me the correct procedure for setting this thing called a "Gateway"Yes. I know your router is not broken. I was trying to joke with you. You stated: “That's why I like this forum - somebody is always prepared to go into comprehensive detail for a Newbie”

Then (as a joke) I said: "sounds broken ;)" and I didn’t go into comprehensive detail about how to fix the problem.

My goal was to make you laugh. Fixing the problem was going to come after you got a chuckle or two out of my short post.

However... the humor was lost.
