What kind of motherboard do you have? What revision is it? If the bios is too old to support a 20 Gig HDD, that could be a reason for the blue screen of death. In that case go to your motherboard's manufacture's website and download the latest bios update, make sure you backup your current bios in case something goes wrong, another 'Oh sh*t' life saver is shorting the cmos jumper too if you mess up.

What kind of hard drive is it! I am asking because some harddrives come with software to let you run them . Even if your bios dose not support the new hard drive. Like western Digtal runs Easy Bios to get use of the full hard drive. When your bios won't. Also make sure your bios has detect. This will cause the problems you are haveing now. Plus make sure your patchcord is not backwards.
