This is VERY strange. I have RR service. I did a backup of Win 98 SE using Norton ghost, and burned the image to cd... take in my that no TCP/IP settings were changed when I made the image. When I tested the image out by deleting my partition and loading the one off the cd, everything booted up with all the settings I had before, however ICQ/MSN would just sit and try to connect until they timed out...
All the lights (3 of them) on my USR CMX cable modem are solid green, in IE 5.5 it times out as well, however if I pull up Winipcfg.exe I can renew and it'll assign the ip, gateway, DNS, & DHCP servers all starting with 24.xxx.xxx.xxx all but the submask. Now if I go into tools>Internet options>connections in IE 5.5 and pick "auto detect proxy" everything loads up and connects, thing is I NEVER had to do that before, as long as my ip, gateway, DNS, & DHCP servers detected in winipcfg.exe I could bring up hte Internet in IE and connect to ICQ. Any ideas?
