Fastest Server?

I have only been able to get a steady 380K a sec from one server, but I have been able to get up to 600K steady combining multiple downloads.

So I was just curious:

From what server did you guys get your fastest single download, and what were you downloading?

I was downloadin a game demo, forgot which one, off of www.happypuppy.com. (http://www.happypuppy.com.) I hit a burst of about 1.2 mbytes and it slowly trickled down to about 300.

3dfx UT 3.48 demo (http://www.3dfxgamers.com/ut/UTdemo348.exe) from 3dfxgamers.com and Nvidia.com

I can sustain 600+KBps from 3dfx and bursted once to 720KBps. I can sustain 400+KBps from Nvidia.

Can an OS really have that much impact on speed. So from what i gather from reading all of this is that if i am running 98SE now and go to WIN ME i will have better performance for my cable connection. And if I go to 2000 I will have better performance than 98SE but less than ME. Can anyone elaborate on this.

Biggy it really all depends. All computers are different with different motherboards, chips, memory, everything. With all these differences you could get great results with WinME on one system but crappy results on another system with WinME. OSI model my ass.

I get great speeds from Microsofts site, i use DirectX as a download test

I also find some stuff from download.com can be fast

Wanut Creek is also fast, there are various other sites that are fast for me

but it varies on a day to day basis with my cable, heh
