(I'm running windows 98 SE with a 56k, no cable or dsl)

I type in winipcfg. And up pops the Ip Configuration box.
What does all this stuff mean?

I know what an IP is..
But it says Ethernet adapter information in the corner, so it's giving me info about my Ethernet adapter. What is that? It says I have a PPP adapter. Can someone explain what all this stuff means? Or refer me to a place where I can find out?
I forget how to take a picture of your screen, otherwise I'd post what it says up here.

WinIPCfg, for Win9X, and IPConfig, for WinNT, are tools that let you see IP info for your communications. Especially useful for DHCP situations to see the details or if one of your adapters is getting a lease.

Dial up networking uses PPP, Point to Point Protocol. Similar to when you see DSL with PPPoE, Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet. So when you see details of the PPP, that's the WAN IP address your ISP gave you, you'll also see your ISP's gateway and DNS servers. Play around with it, you can't do any harm there, it's just an info window, not a configuration window that can get messed up.

If you add a network card, VPN connection, etc, you'll see those become available in the drop down window.
