I set my ADSL RWIN setting lower due to a board on DSL Reports.In looking at this guide, it suggested that my current setting, 30,660 may be way to low.On this site it suggested that the lowest setting I should use should be 64,240 more than twice what I have now and up to 513,920.What to do???

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 30660
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 30660
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1226.4 kbps (153.3 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 490.56 kbps (61.32 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 115 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

The absolute best RWIN is the best that works for your system. That means trial and error. Set it to a bunch of different values. Then download a large file and get a feel for what RWIN contributes the best for you. Try to do this early in the morning when not many other people are online.

Mine is set to 256960 per speedguide windows 98 patch.

NO ONE has been able to provide me with a solid argument to why a smaller RWIN than 64240 should work better. There IS NO way it would work better, RWIN is just a buffer.

"Of'course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong"

www.cablenut.com (http://www.cablenut.com) has a great program. Don't know much about this Intelli-dialup. In fact, I've never heard of it before in my life nor on this bb.

so ,should I use the 'drtcp' to put in the suggested 64240 and leave all other settings the same??

And again, i have an ADSL connection and use W/98
Again, thanks for all the help.

I told you before 513920 was for cable, NOT DSL :)

If you want an easy way to adjust your settings try "http://www.skylam.com/"
and download Intelli-Dial-UP 2.51,it's free.
Install and reboot, execute program and select Local erea network, @Home. and reboot.
My speed and about 5 other people I sent here had very good speed increase. Use this setting for both Cable and DSL. Good Luck
I went from 512 apx. to 850 apx (AVG).

Start with the pppoe patch here and let it set your rwin. See if this helps. Then run the TCP/IP analyzer and see what you come up with. Try some of the lower rwin settings in it. This might help you out. But back the reg up first incase of any problems. The highest your rwin will be able to go depends on the speeds you are paying for. But 513920 is really for cable only. GoodLuck! ;) Plus make sure your MaxMTU and Max MSS are for DLS and not cable. You can find these under advanced reg settings on the main page.
