Need some quick help here.

I have a user here at the company I work for that has a .swf (flash) file. She needs to create a thumbnail from this file. Is there a way to do that or do you need special software?

Sorry, I have no experience with flash so I'm clueless on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, like I said I know nothing about flash. I'll see if I can explain a little better...

We have a user that has some .swf files and some .flv files. Each movie that she has came has a .swf version and a .flv version. She is trying to create a snapshot (thumbnail) of each movie. The person that sent these files to her said she could use the .swf file to create thumbnails. I'm trying to help her figure out how to do that.

Make anymore sense?

If you open it in Flash, you should be able to export a single frame as jpg - you can set the size I believe.

OK, i understand now.
You can also view the swf in the browser and use the keyboard Print Screen button to capture the entire animation or movie (frame by frame) as it appears in the browser. Then use Edit\Paste in your favorite graphics editor and crop-resize the screen capture to thumbnail size.

Flash DOES export as explained above.
I posted the other solution in the event the user does not have Flash creation software. (anybody can grab frames of a swf that way)
