View Full Version : Tearyon, console port pin layout !
I have just opened up my Terayon modem and attached a cable to the console port on the main print-board.
The only thing I get on my HyperTerminal screen is some weird signs.
Can anyone help me with a cable layout of the Terayon modem ?
Please mail me if you have more NFO !!
Thanx,

I do not think I should tell you this but oh well. A console port is a serial port usually running at 9600 8N1, if it is an RJ45 console port you will need to have a "roll over" cable with one end having an RJ45 to DB9 connector which connects your your serial ports on the computer and the other end being the RJ45 connector to the console port. If it is a regular DB9 male connector then a regular serial cable might do the job. Also you may consider trying different settings for the data bits, stop bits, and the parity, (only one combo will work) and also try different port speed settings (ie. 115200 most likely WILL NOT work, 9600 or even 2400 may work). So if you are so eager and try this you might get a working connection to the console port on the modem. Now if you do get it working and find some mysterious setting in the modem that overrides your provider's parameters you may be asking for a lot of trouble, this is usually reffered to as "uncapping" . If this is your intention then may I bring your attention to a good article about uncapping done by Speedguide right here: http://www.speedguide.net/editorials/uncapping.shtml
