View Full Version : Shotgunning 2 modems together.
does anyone have any info on this? I have no DSL access until summer. Cable will be here sooner but its Adelphia and they cant Cable TV to work right let alone cable internet. I was interested in shotgunning 2 56k's for right now until DSL gets here. I know that your ISP has to allow this, so does anyone know of an ISP that allows the shotgunning or 2 modems?

Apparently there are quite a few ISPs that support shotgun and are not too expensive.

Also note: As far as I know the old, out of production, internal, ISA, Diamond Supra Express modems are the only one's that have this capability. As far as ISP's go your ISP just has to let two people be logged onto your account at once. Obviously you also have to have a seperate phoneline for each modem.
You can always just use what is called multi-link. This is basically where you take 2 modems, 2 phones lines, setup your dial-up networking connection, assume they allow multiple log-ins (like my pathetic ISP does but says it doesn't), and connect. I've done this plenty of times with my ISP and got rather good connections. Good if you consider 2 56Ks good considering they're still 56k :) You can do this with any combination of 56k modems as it is a dial-up networking configuration. The way windows is setup, I guess you could theoritically connect with 50 56ks if you had a system that could handle that many hehe. Oh well, just get cable or DSL and you'll be lots happier.
