Other than changing the Link Speed & Duplex option from "Auto Detect" to a specific value, I've really never been able to find any tweaks for the Advanced config options on Intel nics. Any recommendations on settings for these options to improve performance? The current settings are pretty much default except for the above change (other options in parens):

Adaptive Inter-Frame Spacing: 1 (num)
Adaptive Technology: On (Off)
Adaptive Transmit Threshhold: 200 (num)
Coalesce Buffers: 8 (num)
Enable PME: No Action (Disabled|Enabled|Hardware Default)
Flow Control: Generate & Respond (Generate|Off|Respond)
Log Link State Event: Enabled (Disabled)
PCI Bus Efficiency: Disabled (Enabled)
Priority Level Definition: 4 (num)
Receive Descriptors: 48 (num)
Retransmit Inter-Frame Spacing: 6 (num)
Trasmit Descriptors: 16 (num)

Try these:

* Adaptive Inter-Frame Spacing: 1
* Adaptive Technology: On
* Adaptive Transmit Threshhold: 200
* Coalesce Buffers: 16
* Enable PME: No Action
* Flow Control: Generate & Respond
* Log Link State Event: Disabled
* PCI Bus Efficiency: Disabled
* Priority Level Definition: 4
* Receive Descriptors: 200
* Retransmit Inter-Frame Spacing: 6
* Trasmit Descriptors: 16

That's what I use, also make sure you have the latest drivers.

Thanks, I'll give those changes a shot. After I posted I briefly had time to test a few of the on/off toggles. The most noticeable effect was enabling PCI Bus Efficiency which pretty much just whacked 1Mb off my download speed. :eek:

Anyhow, these nics have been great for the few years I've been using them. I just recently tried comparing them with the Intel Pro/1000 MT in my machines and couldn't get the 1000 to perform as well. A few hundred K slower. I would think they'd be a little more efficient but maybe they're just not as mature.
