You're all luck. I have rr (upstate NY, binghamton area) and it SUCKS ASS. We have a pathetic local website (www.stny.com), the sites speeds say max 10Mbps down and 768 kbps up. When ANYONE in our area does a speed test from dslreports or anywhere, the max anyone gets is about 900/150. Still, ohh, 900kbps down, so over 100KB/sec, huh? Well, we dont even get that. the max download speed here is 40-60KB/sec, and uploads are 2-4KB/sec (keep in mind these top speeds are LOCAL, not over the true internet, which is MUCH SLOWER). Im a heavy gamer. My best pings I ever get are 150-175. A friend on cable 500 miles farther from the server than I am gets a 40 ping. LOTS of complaints on the local newsgroups. There are 3 RR techs (locals) that read the NG daily but dont post to help. They know we have the worst cable speeds in the country, so what do they do? nothing. Outages are experienced once or twice a day. once a day for about an hour or two, my pings will ALL shoot up to over 1500, making ANYTHING unusable.

They just started to give out the toshiba pcx 1100 docsis modems. the people who have them say they suck even more than the current modems (black cyber surfr wave modems). they say they lose connection 5-10 times a day and have constant problems.

Over the past 2 years of this BS I have determined we are the worst cable in the country. a rr user 300 miles up north on RR gets 3600/2000kbps (down/up)

I think it is the brainless RR "techs" in our area who are jack@$$es and dont know crap about cable or their jobs that are making us the worst cable anywhere. they refuse to do ANYTHING. I seriously think we need some rr techs from another state to come here, kick our techs out and take over to make the service halfway decent around here.

They say we arent capped, and that most nodes have under 75 users (they say mine has 53). The only thing that can be the problem is ROADRUNNER.

Someone mind posting to offer any advice that will work, since two years of complaining dont work?

Oh, get this. About 8 months ago, I wanted to trade in the black wav modem for the older white one (someone on the NG said it was faster, which I want, more speed off this ****ty cable service) So one night I went down (im 16) to the office and got a white modem from the girl at the desk. it was even worse by FAR, so I wanted the black one back. When I was in school, my mom was taking the white one back for the black one. The RR tech flipped. he was yelling and swearing at my mother at the top of his lungs "WHO THE HE| | GAVE YOU THIS AND WHO THE F*** TOLD YOU TO BRING THIS BACK" he just freakin flipped, which made me so pissed off at the "tech", he should be flipping burgers.

Something is seriously wrong with our techs and service. is there ANYTHING we can do? there are major problems here. Anyone offer any advice as what to do? I'm sure there are many knowledgable people here who can offer their 2 cents for our community with piss poor cable.
Sorry if I swore or anything, just 2 years of rage :/

I'd like to add that EVERYTHING is as tweaked as possible, and can not be tweaked anymore. Just thought I'd add that before someone suggested tweaking anything.

I'm in Syracuse NY and on twcny.rr
Anyone 300 miles north of you is probably on twcny also. I really don't think they can get 3600/2000kbps down/up because we are now capped at 2mb/384kb.

As far as the "Local Website" go to http://www.rr.com/rros2/welcome/
and make the selections for State and Network and you should get a different SouthernTier site.

One more thing, are you using a USB adapter to connect your modem? I tried that and got terrible speeds and disconected all the time.

id4rox, I am going to try and say this as polite as possible.

I am also on rr in the Binghamton area and DO NOT experience the same things as you.

My experience with the local rr tech. has been pleasent and I would also say they are very experienced.

I had a problem on Tuesday, I called and they were here on Wednesday. You can't really ask for anything more.

Your speeds are out to lunch, why I don't know, I am on the same network as you are and my speeds are pretty good.

I do not lose connection on a regular basis.

My ping to various gaming servers is usually pretty good.

the point I am trying to make is this,

You said"I have rr (upstate NY, binghamton area) and it SUCKS ASS. "

Know this is really not a true statement. I beleive the problem may more localized to you specifc machine/area/node. If you call LOCAL tech. support ask to speak to Jim or Tim. Also start a ticket number with the local rr tech.s and send a few complete trace routes/ping plots to them so they can investigate the slow down.

idrox4 To many tweaks in the system will cause a slow down to. You might want to use the default patch and remove them. Then try one at a time.Use the defaultpatch between each install till you get the one that works for you. GoodLuck!

Well it also depends on the type of NIC crad you Have it spec's and so forth. I have an Ovislink 8019R model the worst they supply and I don't encounter the problem that you do the only think I can think of is you Setting or you TTL most likely or a roughter, If you have the same NIC as I do I would be happy to give you some setting that I have worked dilegently on mabey they can have an improvement for you.
