Ok up until I installed "Painkiller" I was problem free.. Im not totally convinced its the game yet, possibly direct x ? Anyway at random points in game it will freeze for, oh.....2 or 3 seconds and then continue. I dont feel my grafix card is at fault do to BFV being such a resource hog and my system not doing it there. Im just curious if maybe the use of code in the newer games calling on certain Direct X code such as in Direct X 9a or b ? Does BF-V use the same Direct X code as PainKiller ?

huh?
DX sits between the game and the computer hardware.

Installing another game should have no effect on some other game that was already installed.

Maybe its lookin for something on a disc. I dunno if PK requires a CD to be in there(or a mounted image of some nature) tho. Just what popped into my head.

Let me try again! :) basically I have no problem running any game other that PainKiller. And im curious as to whether its a game,or direct x issue. Ive updated the game and read up but nothing pertaining to the issue I have .. I have the newest drivers on my entire machine so I dont think its that. :thumb:

you might try updating drivers for your video hardware.. www.nvidia.com / www.ati.com as well as looking for a patch for painkiller (http://www.painkillergame.com) the site is down for some reason but i found u another link off action triip http://www.actiontrip.com/files/patches/painkiller.phtml

I would also update all other drivers with a certified version unless otherwise specified. what kind of settings do you have for AA and AF as well as the settings in the game it self??

You already mentioned you have the latest drivers, and game patch, but just for yucks, did you try re-installing the latest DX back over on top of itself?

Actually Painkiller installed something from DirectX onto my machine, and I know for sure I had the latest ver.. At least the latest that shows up on microsofts updates page. If PK installed something over my existing DX would that cause it?

In theory, if a game requires a "certain minimum version of DX"...it should check the OS for what's pre-existing. If an older version pre-existing, the game install will install the newer version on the CD. If it checks the OS, and finds an equal, or newer version than the game requires, it will skip the DX install.

That's how todays games install services work, in theory. In the early days of DX, I know some games had poorly written install routines. You might have had DX 5.0 on your machine, gone to install some game you just got that required DX 4.1 or higher, didn't check your system, and simply went about installing DX 4.1 or whatever. Screwing your system up. I haven't run across that in a lot time, and I'm not familiar with Painkiller. But....it wouldn't do any harm to download the full install of the latest DX from MS's site, and simply reinstall back over on top of itself.

i dont know what kind of rig you have but i have a p4e and an 9800pro.

i have not patched painkiller above 1.00 and all seems to be running fine. i was advised to turn off agp fast writes for this game. patch the game to 1.2 and i bet that fixes it. especially if you have an ati card.

Could your virus scanner be crunching away slowing your machine down?
