Well my GF's comp is on the frits. Its an old HP with Celeron 400 with win 98 or some crap like that. They dont treat it well either :). When i get there i see all these search bars and internet optimizers. And there inter has been down lately. Using another computer i found the DSL is working, but the comp is not. IE can load pages but it takes literally ten minutes to load them.
AIM signs on flawlessly, making me believe something is wrong with windows/explorer.
i removed all there spyware and crap programs and still no go. i dont know what else to do, i restored IE to its default, currently running a virus scan (will take around 10 hrs to complete lol)

any other suggestions? i dont want to reformat, it will take HOURS

Thanks guys :)

See if you can ping out by domain name (ping www.yahoo.com) then it is some kind of inet setting (ie reset all IE options to default including delete files, clear history, programs tab, advanced tab). You may want to try reinstalling the NIC if you can NOT ping by domain name.

Sounds like you are pulling an IP for AIM to work. Also try pinging by IP (66.218.71.113 = yahoo). You may even have Winsock corruption but the Ping by domain and reinstall of nic will tell all. If you still have issues after that try the Winsock fix at Microsoft Database. Search for Winsock reinstall or something.

HTH.
