First, thanks for reading this.
I just upgraded my SBC DSL account from 1.5Mb/sec, to 3Mb/sec. If I download anything from the web, or from usenet, and I only use one connection (thread) to download, I get a nice speed of 320KB/sec. As soon as I try and download anything using more than one connection, my total speed drops from 320KB to 150 - 230KB/sec. An example is, when I download any files from usenet, and I use mulitiple connections in my news browser, my speed slows down.
So my question is, is there a setting, or tweak, or some trick I need to do to get my full speed with mulitiple threads.
I have tried everything I can think of. I called my ISP, and they are more confused than I am.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. BTW, mulitiple threads never slowed down my connection, when I was using my 1.5Mb/sec account.
TIA.

It is normal for that to happen when downloading multipule files. The amount of bandwidth is spread out acorss the open connections.

Prozacjack says that the TOTAL speed decreases.
I've never heard of such a thing, and can't imagine how it can happen. I doubt that it is anything in your computer.
Anybody have any ideas??

Thanks for your reply. I don't think I explained my self very well in my first post. Let me try this again.
If I download file #1 from place "A", then I get 320KB/sec.
If I download file #1, and file #2 from place "A", then I get 90KB/sec for file #1, and 90KB/sec for file #2, which equals 180KB/sec total bandwidth.
Why is it dropping from 320KB/sec to 180KB/sec TOTAL bandwidth when I download multiple files from anywhere?
BTW, if this is what you ment earthmofo, then sorry I didn't understand.

Hey, thanks Kip Patterson. We must of posted at the same time. Yes, that is exactly what I mean.
BTW, the only thing that is different with my computer, from when I had my 1.5Mb/sec download connection, is I changed my hard drive partitions from basic partitions into dynamic volumes. Don't seem like this would have anything to do with it, but could it?

I have come to believe that is has to be a problem with SBC. I just reformated my hard drives, reinstalled win xp, and before I did anything, I tested my connection, and I still have the same problem.
I have one more question. I am using a speedstream 5360 modem, and I am wondering. Is this modem capable of handling high speed connections? I mean, when I first got this modem, it was with a dsl package that only had speeds up to 768Kb/sec. Now I am running 3072Kb/sec, and I wonder if it can handle the speed increase.

Thanks for the help. I found the firmware update, but it for a 060 5360 023 or something, and mine is a 060 5360 002. :(
For the heck of it, I called SBC to see if I could get one of those 2wire home portals, thinking that maybe it would fix the problem. They said, "Sure, all we need is $149.95" I was like " . Can I trade in the one I have for it?" They said, "Sure, just give us your speedstream and $149.95, and it's yours."
Well, anyways, I think I'll be going with cable after my contract is up. A friend of mine is using charter, and he is getting about 50-100KB/sec more than me for the same price, and he dosen't have any of the multiple connection problems that I am having.
