View Full Version : Anyone know what's up with Spybot S&D?
They haven't had any updates in a while. And I just noticed one a new install that it doesn't have any updates... Anyone know what has happened?

PCWorld or PCMagazine had some article about the dude who started Spybot/Pepki, I read it when I was on the plane down to FL that week I caught up with you guys.
He's doing a new version, so I'm guessing the little bit of manpower resources he has is focusing on this, rather than updates. And another guess....I'm going to wager his new version won't be free...or not for long at least. Started several months ago with pulling some mirrors...then slowing down updates.
To be honest...for at least the past 6 months...I've been having a lot better success with AdAware.
Release Candidate 5 out for some time seems to have most of the bugs worked out and will be updated per PepiMK today:
" Well, we'll release something today (including new detections) "

I kinda feel bad for the guy, when there was one or two "imitators" making people pay for thier similar "named" versions, and taking attention away from his awesome software.

Yeah those were sneaky eh? A remember a while ago, if someone mentioned they had an issue with their PC, I'd recommend getting "SpyBot Search and Destroy"....or they'd see me use it. Then go get it on their own. I'd later find out they had stumbled across these imitators....which want you to pay, or actually hijack your PC.
Quickly learned to repeat the exact name to people from then on...telling them exactly how to type it into Google, and choose only the downloads from download.com or pcworld.com.

Also his web site got a DoS attack from someone, so I'm sure that didn't help the guy get any happier.
I can't believe what people will do sometime, I mean , if you have done any programming, you know it can be a pain in the @ss, and this guy is offering his software for free, to help people out...
then the above stuff happens. Not Happy.
